Kinesiology...How Energy Moves in the Body
Energy
Kinesiology is a modern term used to identify the movement of vital,
subtle energy throughout the body. This energy or 'bio-field' has
various names in different cultures such as ch'i, prana, ki, mana
and orgone and relates to the innate intelligence of the body to 'live,
move and have it's being'. It's
thought that each individual contains an energy blueprint that distinguishes
us from each other. This pattern is the framework for body intelligence
and memory to express itself with it's life force. Imbalances in energy
flow can disrupt natural harmony on mental and then emotional levels.
If left in a state of imbalance and disharmony, physical illness may
eventually occur.
The
human energy system has several facets of expression with some considered
more important than others depending upon the facilitators experience
or preference. One more commonly known facet of energy anatomy taken
from Traditional Chinese Medicine and used by acupuncturists is the
meridian system. These meridians, 14 'sections', flow throughout the
body like a gridwork providing vitality to every organ and body system
and can be affected in a variety of ways both positively and negatively.
The meridians have been mapped radioactively and electrographically
showing microscopic, tubule type openings on the skin.
Two
other facets of energy expression are the chakras and the aura. For
general discussion, there are seven main chakras that run up the front
of the torso and each relates to an area of experience and expression
in a persons life such as survival, creativity or communication. The
chakras are considered the energy receivers and transmitters and from
which the meridians derive their energy flow. As the chakras spin,
the resulting energy mixture helps to generate the individual aura
which contains our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual bodies.
Energy
Flow...Restoring Proper Balance
In
the 1960's, the concept of muscle testing in Applied Kinesiology was
used as the basis to develop a way to measure and modify body energy
flow in the meridians. This tool is called Touch For Health is one
of the balancing models used at Botanical Works. The process involves
a simple method of specific muscle energy evaluation in the arms and
legs to detect not the strength of the muscles themselves but the
energy flow to those muscles through the meridians. Each meridian
section is evaluated giving a snapshot of general energy flow as well
as a view to how mental and emotional issues may affect us energetically
in the body.
Once evaluated, balancing techniques such as simple touch, imagery,
metaphors and certain foods and herbs help to restore and maintain
a healthy energy flow in the body. Muscles then are rechecked for
change which can be described as an energy shift. Clients attest to
its effectiveness by a sense of 'feeling better' and refreshed. They
feel more confident to reach their defined goals and are instructed
and encouraged on how to continue 'in balance' on their own.
